Challenge of the Magi –

Long ago, when the war between the gods and titans tore the fabric of reality apart, the very planet was pushed to the brink of destruction. The elemental and cosmic energies unleashed were so cataclysmic that they threatened to tear the world apart, triggering a premature supernova that would obliterate the entire solar system. The gods, retreating from the conflict, left the world in chaos, and the mortal races could do nothing but wait for their impending doom.

Arrival –

On a distant world, far removed from the chaos, lived the Magi—a race of beings deeply attuned to the arcane currents of the universe. The Magi were not a technological or scientific race; instead, they had a profound and natural affinity for magic, allowing them to sense the vast ripples of energy spreading across the solar system. They became aware of the impending disaster, knowing that if the world shattered, the resulting chain reaction would extend across the cosmos, reaching their own distant home.

In a grand council, the Magi decided to act, for they had the power to intervene where the gods had abandoned their creations. It was decreed that a great ritual, the most ambitious feat of magic ever attempted, would be performed. Seven of their finest volunteered, knowing full well they would never return to their home. They would journey to the troubled planet to siphon off the chaotic energies and stabilize it, preserving both their world and the universe from cataclysm.

The Ritual -

The ritual was perilous and unprecedented. With immense effort, the Magi channeled the arcane forces required to transport themselves across the vast expanse of space, arriving on the war-torn world. They found themselves amidst a realm scarred by the clash of divine powers and titanic rage, but they quickly went to work. Over months, they stabilized the planet, siphoning off the excess energy and dispersing it safely into the void.

It had not been easy though.  In order to successfully control the rampaging forces of magic, each Magi had to focus on one colour of magic.  One each of the Magi were assigned a colour.  Red, Yellow. Blue, Green, Black and White strands of magic were pulled apart from each other and with support of their leader, all the excess which would pull the planet apart was jettisoned into the void of space.  Not all of it though, as the world needed magic to survive.

With their mission accomplished, the seven Magi became immortal exiles, bound to this new world. They chose a remote island, far from the emerging civilizations, to settle and avoid disrupting the natural evolution of its inhabitants. There, they began to forge a new path for themselves, devoting their existence to the mastery of magic. Each Magi took up the study of a specific branch of magic, exploring the vast depths of their chosen discipline. At the center of this arcane enclave stood the Rainbow Magi, the greatest of them all, who had the rare gift of mastering all forms of magic and thus served as their guide and protector.

Rise of the Necromancer –

For many centuries, the Magi lived in peace, immersed in their studies. Each of the seven honed their unique path, seeking to uncover the mysteries of the arcane. But one of the Magi, chose a darker path—he delved into the forbidden arts of black magic. The power to command death and manipulate the essence of life began to corrupt him. Seduced by the power of necromancy, he secretly raised an army of the dead, hidden from the eyes of his peers.

The Necromancer's ambition grew unchecked until he decided to make his move. In a surprise attack, he unleashed his undead legions upon his fellow Magi, striking down each in their sanctuaries. The once-serene island of the Magi was consumed by darkness as the Necromancer marched towards the Rainbow Tower, the heart of their magical order.

The Siege of the Rainbow Tower -

The battle within the Rainbow Tower was desperate and brutal. The Rainbow Magi fought tirelessly, using his vast repertoire of magical skills to hold off the endless tide of undead. But the Necromancer's power was immense, amplified by dark rituals and the stolen strength of his fallen brethren. Floor by floor, the Necromancer's forces pushed the Rainbow Wizard higher and higher until he was forced to confront the true nature of the enemy’s power.

Realizing that the undead were animated by the dark threads of necromantic magic, the Rainbow Magi devised a bold plan. Abandoning the tower for the first time since its construction, he teleported to the place where the Necromancer was directing his army. There, on a storm-battered hill, the two Magi clashed in a battle of unparalleled fury. The Necromancer, empowered by forbidden spells, gained the upper hand, and as the Rainbow Magi's strength waned, the undead closed in.

But the Rainbow Magi had one last gambit. As the Master of All Magic, he was able to corrupt the very necromantic energies animating the undead, bending them to his will. The Necromancer watched in horror as his own army turned against him, clawing at their former master. Desperate, he cast himself into the Abyss of Shadows, vanishing into the dark void, never to return. The Rainbow Wizard stood victorious but alone—the last of the original seven Magi.

Magical Quest –

With the Necromancer defeated, the Rainbow Wizard understood that the world had changed. The Magi could no longer remain passive guardians, isolated from the world. Leaving the island, he embarked on a long journey across the lands, seeking out those with natural magical talent. Over a decade, he traveled to every corner of the world, testing and mentoring those who showed potential. From his search, he chose five apprentices, each gifted in a unique aspect of magic. Together, they returned to the island of the Magi, which had been scarred by the Necromancer’s dark reign.

The new Magi were different; they would not only study but prepare to act. Under the Rainbow Magi’s guidance, each apprentice was tasked with mastering their chosen art and forging their own powers. This time, they would create their own forces and be ready to confront any threat to the world. The island was reborn as a sanctuary and fortress, where magic flowed freely and the Magi could prepare for the challenges ahead.

Vigil –

The Rainbow Magi, ever watchful, knew that the balance of magic was threatened, and the ancient forces once thought dormant were beginning to stir. The new Magi had a choice to make: remain secluded on their island or take their place on the world stage, as guardians, warriors, and arbiters of arcane power.

With their forces assembled, the Magi prepared to act, knowing that the world might once again need them to confront a rising tide of darkness. The Rainbow Magi, now a mentor and leader, understood that the time of passive study was over—the world was changing, and the Magi would stand ready, whether as defenders or as masters of the arcane balance.

Building the Council -

When the threat of the Catastrophe appeared, it was the Magi that first recognised the potential world ending threat it was.  They all left the island and traveled to each of the major races to council them on the threat.  This was no mean task for a lot of them saw the Magi as a threat.  Many did not heed the warning but enough were convinced.  Even so it took the diplomacy of the Magi to put the varied races they did convince together at it was also the Magi that came up with the plan to draw the aliens out and force them to spread themselves thin to then allow the flying forces they had in the council to strike at the heart of the Hive Queen's domain.  It may not have been the success they hoped for but it was enough to keep the Catastrophe in check for now, which was a lot better than what could have been if they did not intercede.

Binding the Elements –

No longer wanting to rely on the support of the forces of the world, the Rainbow Magi decreed that they needed to build their own forces.  The Island where they lived was heavily populated by different creatures, attracted over time by the heavy saturation of magic.  So it was there they started, but the Blue Magi was more ambitious.

The Blue Magi knew that if he could not gain control over the Air Elemental, the power he sought would never be achieved. He had to find a way to subdue the elemental. Armed with his mastery over air magic, he ascended to the highest peak in the world, a jagged, wind-battered mountain known as Stormspire, where the air was thin, and the storms were fiercest. He knew the elemental would not be able to resist the call of such a powerful storm, and there he laid his trap.

For days, the Blue Magi stood at the peak, chanting incantations that echoed through the storm clouds, calling out to the Elemental. The winds howled, and the sky darkened as it finally answered the summons. Arriving in a blinding flash, a colossal vortex of wind, lightning, and raw elemental fury. The air crackled with energy, and the very mountain trembled under the elemental’s wrath.

What followed was an epic battle of wills. The elemental attacked with all the power of the sky, hurling hurricane-force winds and bolts of lightning at the Blue Magi. But the Magi was not easily cowed. With a wave of his hand, he bent the winds to his will, redirecting the lightning away and dispersing the gales. The sky above them churned, a chaotic dance of power as the two forces clashed, neither willing to yield.

For hours, the battle raged, and it seemed as if the raw fury would overwhelm even the Blue Magi. But he had not come unprepared. He had spent weeks crafting a Binding Ritual, a spell of immense power that could trap even the most chaotic of elementals. As the elemental surged forward for a final, crushing blow, the Blue Magi unleashed the full force of his magic.

Calling upon the winds he had tamed over the years, a massive vortex formed around the elemental, matching its own power. With a series of intricate gestures, he wove the winds together, creating a prison of air that tightened around the elemental, binding it in place. The elemental howled and thrashed, sending waves of thunder and lightning in every direction, but the vortex held firm.

In the heart of the storm, the Blue Magi raised his staff, its tip glowing with a pale, azure light. He spoke the final words of the incantation, and the winds responded, pulling the elemental’s essence from the storm and sealing it within a crystal orb. The sky above cleared, the storm dissipating into a gentle breeze as the power of the elemental was contained at last.

Saving the World from Itself -

The Rainbow Magi did not sacrifice his life on his world and save this planet just to see it be destroyed another way.  Peace and diplomacy are always his first attempts but he has come to realise that this is no longer realistic.  It is time for the Magi to lead their armies and unleash their power on the world, otherwise it will rip itself apart.  It is only a matter of time before the Gods and Titans renew their war and he is not sure if his apprentices will be able to replicate what his fellow Magi were able to do.  And of course he will not rest until his former friend, the Necromancer, is brought to justice.

Regular

Magi Regular

Regular choices start with the Avian Skystriders, not designed for combat they instead use the Scout ability to let you reveal your opponents hidden cards.  Gnomes are really weak, but they are mischievous and can use the Trapper ability to take out any card that attacks them, so long as they have not been revealed before an attack.  Hyena Scavengers use modified crossbows to attack from range to keep them out of trouble whereas the Living Statue has a high size and defence for this tier to keep it in the fight.  Then you have the Sisters of the Priory who will lose any combat they are in but their Heal ability helps you keep your other cards in the battle for longer.

Veterans

Veterans

At Veteran level the all-round combat unit are the Paladins, equally at home in attack or defence and they have the advantage that they are Immune to any magic spell your opponent targets them with.  The aggressive choice is the Cyclops, much more suited to being an attacker or you could go for a much more defensive option with the Brass Sentinel.  Goliath Bears are the weakest option combat wise at this tier, but they do have Killing Blow, which means with the right role they can even take down a Titan!

Elite

Elite -

Giants are the best attacking option at Elite level, with their large size and attack score, but they are large targets so not very good on the defensive.  Roc on the other hand are still very big but more all round in combat.  They can also Fly and give a Bonus to any Avian Skystriders on the battlefield.  Finally, the Gorilla Guard are a good defence option plus their Bodyguard ability lets them switch places with one of your character cards if they have got a bit too close to the front lines.

Titan & Legend & Heroes & Champions

Charachters

The Hero and Champion choices are all very similar as they are all Magi of different colours that can cast from a specific deck.  The Red Magi cast a lot of aggressive fire spells whereas the Green Magi and her nature spells are more designed to boost your other cards or stop movement.  The White Magi is all about healing and stopping attacks whereas the Blue Magi uses air magic to unleash storms and hurricanes.  And the Yellow Magi is all about metals and can break magic items or even turn opponents to stone.  The Legend card is the Rainbow Magi, the best spell caster in the game as he can use any of the Magi magic decks.  The Behemoth is the Titan card, a huge beast which adds some much-needed physical power to the Magi army.
