The Nature of Demons –
In a dimension imperceptible to all living beings—even to the mighty Gods and Titans—lies the realm of the Demons. This plane of existence, a shadow that runs parallel to the known Universe, is a domain of pure, chaotic magic. It is a place of unending energy, where the very fabric of reality pulses with a dark, otherworldly power. For countless millennia, this demonic realm remained hidden, its existence unknown to the world of mortals. Yet, the Demons were not ignorant; they had long been aware of the other planes of existence and harbored a relentless desire to break into the physical world. However, there was an insurmountable barrier that kept them at bay. To pierce the veil between worlds, a cataclysm of unimaginable scale would be needed—a disruption so profound that it would tear the fabric of reality itself. That cataclysm was about to unfold.
The Tear -
The epic war between the Gods and Titans shook the very foundations of the planet, releasing waves of destructive, uncontrolled energy. The world teetered on the brink of collapse, saved only by the intervention of the Magi, who siphoned off the rampaging magic that threatened to consume everything. Yet, the clash of titanic forces had an unforeseen consequence: a tiny rift, a tear in the very essence of reality, had formed. Invisible to mortal eyes, this rift grew slowly, year by year, like a wound festering in the dark. Beyond it lay the Demon realm, and the Demons could sense the breach. But it was too small; too fragile. If they tried to cross, they would disintegrate, for they needed the magical energy of their own dimension to survive, just as mortals need air.
Instead, the corruption of their realm began to seep through, tainting the land around the tear. Plants withered, creatures twisted into abominations, and the earth itself seemed to sicken. Caught in this creeping miasma was a Titan who had entered a deep, restorative slumber after the war. Once a being of formidable strength, the corruption transformed it into a grotesque, nightmarish entity, known only as the Atrocity. Sensing that the tear was reaching a critical point, the Demon King, Cthulhu, used his formidable power to awaken the corrupted Titan. The Atrocity’s agonized roar and the outpouring of demonic energy caused the tear to rip wide open, and the land collapsed into a massive crater that would be forever known as The Pit.
Seven Deadly Sins –
At last, the Demons had their foothold. The tear widened into a chasm, and from it, Demons began to spill forth, eager to conquer the new realm. The Pit, saturated with demonic corruption, began to warp and resemble the Demon realm itself—a chaotic, twisted landscape where the laws of nature held no sway. Cthulhu emerged, surveying the land with dark delight, as his followers poured out of the rift, howling in anticipation of their conquest. Yet, they were quickly thwarted. The further they ventured from the Pit, the more their forms began to disintegrate. They were still bound to the demonic energy that sustained them, and without it, they could not survive.
Frustration boiled over among the Demons, who had waited eons for this moment only to find their prize slipping through their grasp. But Cthulhu was not without cunning. In this world, he sensed the flow of souls, each one carrying a spark of energy akin to what his Demons needed to survive. Observing the nature of these souls, he discovered that if a soul was tainted by one of the seven deadly sins—Pride, Greed, Envy, Wrath, Lust, Gluttony, or Sloth—it could sustain a Demon’s presence. Thus, Cthulhu devised a plan to corrupt mortal souls, ensuring that the essence of sin would spread and grow, allowing his Demons to manifest and thrive. Initially, the incursions were small and strategic, with Demons focusing on capturing and corrupting souls to drag them back to the Pit, where they could be twisted and broken to serve their dark master.
Soulstorm -
During these years the Demons found that beings that used magic were much more susceptible to their attentions. It certainly appeared that the essence of magic was the same or at least very similar to the corruption they needed to survive on this world. If they could corrupt a magic user, the same way they corrupted normal souls they would be able to manifest more powerful Demons for longer. Eventually they found a suitable target. A young Elf by the name of Elydion had been struggling at his studies to become a mage. He was certainly gifted enough in his natural ability to manipulate magic but unlike most of his peers he came from a poor background. As such he felt the teachers paid much more attention to his richer classmates, ones that had an important family name. This resentment festered and Elydion fell behind in his studies and he blamed the class divide. Worse was that these self-entitled Elves who did not have his talent would tease and bully him over his struggles and his parentage. Eventually he failed his exams and was exiled from the fabled Towers of Magic of the Elves back to his home to face his family as a failure. He was jealous and he wished he was afforded the same opportunities in life as his tormentors were.
How much of this was his own thoughts though cannot be clear for as he slept the Demons of Envy would speak to him in his dreams, telling him of how unfair his life had become and how much better it would be if he had been one of the elite. They had it all after all. Wealth, power, prestige, friends, all things young Elydion did not have. Finally, the young Elf had enough, he would show them all he was worth being in their circle by showing them all his natural talent in a spell so powerful they could deny him no longer. After preparing for days the time had come and he started his spell. Before long though he was out of control and knew something had gone horribly wrong. Those were his last thoughts as his body was ripped apart in a shower of pure magical energy. When the dust settled, thousands of Demons now stood with more materialising all the time.
They ran wild through the city as thousands of Elves were killed where they stood, totally unprepared for combat. What city guard and warriors they had fought to staunch the tide, but it was too much as they came from everywhere. In the coming weeks the surviving Elves were forced to either flee the city or hide as best they could as the Demons hunted them for sport. It was only due to a drastic plan by the Archmage himself that saved them. He was able to find the link between the unleashed magic and the Demons and together with many powerful mages they worked on a spell that had never been attempted before. One to drain the area of all magic. It was desperate but it worked. Without the sustaining energy of magic, the Demons were like fish out of water and as they starved and screamed in frustration they blinked out of existence. Victory though had come at a price and forever there after the magic of the Elves was never quite the same.
Callfour -
Cthulhu could sense that Humans were vulnerable to the sins that could feed the Demons. Instead of being greedy though and picking them off like grapes on a stalk he learnt from what had happened with the Elves. Much to the annoyance of the Demons of the Pit he forbade any of them to take a human soul. He was playing the long game and allowing the Humans to succumb to their worst vices. It took a lot to stop the other Demons going after the easy prey of the Humans with many ignoring his orders. Cthulhu made an example of any he caught though, tormenting them in ways they could never have imagined before snuffing them out of existence. It proved enough of a deterrent and the rest watched more and more Humans succumbing to the seven sins. When he judged the time was right Cthulhu unleashed his agents on the human city of Callfor.
It had always been known as a den of inequity but when the Demons started whispering in the ears of the populace. There was not a sin that was not in full effect and many cults started to appear. The traditional Gods were forgotten, and temples were shut down. The cults of sin were now in control of the city and were even going to war against each other. Every sin was represented and fighting for dominance but there was an overriding feeling amongst the populace that they were entitled to live the best life they could. Indulgence was rife and any law and order were disbanded and there was no justice system. The strategy of Cthulhu had paid off, they had corrupted themselves beyond salvation and with just the slightest of nudges a new tear opened between the realms right in the heart of the city of Callfor.
There was no resistance. The populace that fought back were slaughtered. The most powerful of the cults of sin welcomed the Demons, seeing them as divine manifestations that would lead them to even greater levels of debauchery. They were all wrong. In a single terrifying night, everyone in the city was slaughtered or even worse, dragged back to the Pit to be the playthings of the Demons. The ones that died early were the lucky ones. Callfor was just the start, with a new, albeit smaller, rift they now had a new staging ground and access to all the Human lands.
Salvation –
The Demonic invasion ran rampant across the human lands, and a vast army marched toward the great city of Bastion. The battle that followed would become the stuff of legend, as the Divine Knight rallied the scattered human settlements into a united force. Against all odds, they repelled the Demonic horde, driving them back to the Pit. This hard-won victory marked the birth of the Alliance, a coalition of human settlements that stood against the demonic threat. Yet, the scars of Callfor remain, with the ruined city still haunted by whispers of those dark days. Some say that the streets are still stalked by Demons, waiting for a new opportunity to strike.
Spreading Corruption –
Demonic incursions have since become more frequent, each one an attempt to spread corruption further and destabilize the mortal realms. The major events, however, have alerted the world to the reality of the threat. No longer dismissed as mere folklore, the menace of the Demons is taken seriously by all. While some seek to study and understand the nature of demonic corruption, others advocate for more aggressive measures, calling for strikes on the Pit itself. Such attacks, however, are a double-edged sword; while they may disrupt the Demons’ plans, they also risk giving the Demons access to fresh souls right on their doorstep.
Cthulhu is not without fear. He remembers the Elves’ desperate gambit to sever the Demons' link to their energy, and he knows that similar strategies could be used to close the rift permanently. To guard against this, he has ordered the construction of massive fortifications around the Pit, ensuring that any who dare to challenge him must face the full might of his forces at the Gates of Hell. The Demons chafe at these defensive measures, driven by their lust for conquest and chaos, but none are powerful enough to openly defy Cthulhu—yet.
Cthulhu has discovered that some souls possess extraordinary power—Angel souls, rare and almost impossible to corrupt, yet capable of amplifying demonic energy a hundredfold. These souls are coveted, for they could allow a Demon to sustain itself indefinitely, even far from the Pit. Cthulhu hoards any he can find, believing that enough of them will enable him to spread his influence across the world without the need for a rift. Yet, he is not the only one with designs on these souls. Other Demons scheme and plot, each hoping to seize such power for themselves, and perhaps one day, to challenge Cthulhu’s rule.
Regular
Demons Regular
The Demons are a powerful force with access to the Deadly Sins. However sustaining their form in the mortal world is difficult so cards with the Demon special rule, might not perform an action for you.
The regular choices for the Demons give you options. For straight up combat Cultists are all rounders and they are mortals so not handicapped by the demon ability. However, if you like to gamble the Hell Hounds are stronger in attack but do have the demon ability to worry about. Imps are small and pretty harmless, but they do have fly and scout which lets you reveal hidden cards. Familiars are no use at all in combat, but they can be sacrificed to give bonus to other demon cards, making them a lot stronger. And as another option the tormented have a large size score and the mob ability so even though they are not as strong statistic wise, they should be throwing a lot more dice than their opponents.
Veterans
Younglings
Younglings are perhaps one of the strangest veteran options. They ability of looking like the young of any race they come up against makes it very hard to be attacked. The Pit Guard on the other hand is just a violent monster who revels in close combat. Succubi are magic users so they will let you use the demons magic spell deck and Demogorgans have the ambush ability which allows you to attack on your opponents turn if they have any cards close by.
Elite
Elite -
At Elite level you have the Inferno Demons who are very attack heavy in close combat and have the fire ability to get an added bonus. A more balance combat option at this level are the Archdemons who even though are not quite as good in attack are not far away and they have a better defence. Finally, if you just like to gamble or a bit of madness you could pick the Spawn which does not have fixed attack and defence scores and instead rolls 4d6 in each combat to generate attack or defence scores.
Titan & Legend & Heroes & Champions
Charachters
Your Hero choices for the Demons are Lucifer who leads the Archdemons and gives them a bonus when he is on the field, or Abaddon who will slice through all before him with his high statistics. Medusa is a Champion and gives you the only ranged attack option for the Demons. But even if your opponent gets too close to her she can petrify them with her stone gaze. Another non-combat option is Belial, but she is a fearsome spell caster and can help you dominate in the magic phase. Or you could take Cerberus with his three heads allowing you to roll and extra dice than you normally would in combat and picking the best ones. The most fearsome spell caster though is the Legend Cthulhu, the elder god of the demon realm, but his size and power means he will not be taken down easily. And the frighting Atrocity is the Demon Titan card with statistics to dominate any combat.
