Poseidon –

When the gods descended to shape the world and partake in the Great Game, Poseidon laid claim to the oceans. No other god contested this realm, leaving the god of the seas to wander its vast depths, discovering its myriad creatures and hidden wonders. Yet, as he sought a champion to represent him in the Great Game, none of the existing marine life sufficed. Drawing inspiration from the cephalopods, he created his great Titan, the Kraken, a monstrosity that commanded the waves with unmatched strength and terror.

The Kraken's early victories were absolute, and Poseidon’s dominion over the seas seemed unassailable. However, when the Titans rebelled, the Kraken turned on its creator, forcing Poseidon into a perilous game of cat and mouse across the ocean’s deepest trenches. In his desperation, Poseidon forged a new weapon, merging his power with the essence of oceanic life to create the Leviathan. Though neither creature could claim victory, their battle gave Poseidon the precious time he needed to gather his strength and allies among the gods.

The Rise of Atlantis –

Realizing the need for a unified force, Poseidon used his divine power to create new aquatic races, beings of strength, intelligence, and grace who could act as his warriors, builders, and emissaries. Thus, the Atlantians were born, and they quickly set to work constructing a mighty city beneath the waves: Atlantis, the capital of Poseidon’s empire and a symbol of his control over the ocean.

Under Poseidon’s guidance, Atlantis flourished, becoming a formidable city-state.  The construction of the first city of Atlantis was a monumental undertaking. It was a marvel of ancient engineering, built using coral, crystal, and enchanted metals harvested from the ocean floor. Towers spiraled upward, forming intricate patterns that shimmered in the underwater light, and the city was surrounded by protective barriers that shielded it from both natural and supernatural threats. The Atlantians flourished, creating an empire that stretched across the ocean floor, with Atlantis as its heart.

The First War of Atlantis -

Atlantis’ rise to power was not without opposition. While many aquatic creatures welcomed the Atlantians' order and stability, there were those who resented this new force's sudden dominance. The deep-sea dwellers, who had long existed in isolation, saw the expansion of Atlantis as a threat to their sovereignty. These disparate factions found a leader in the Kraken, who resurfaced to rally them against Poseidon’s creations. What followed was known as the First War of Atlantis.

The Kraken, once Poseidon's most trusted and feared champion, had turned against its creator during the Titan's Rebellion, and its return marked a dark chapter in Atlantian history. Leading a coalition of deep-sea monstrosities, ancient predators, and rogue aquatic tribes, the Kraken laid waste to Atlantian outposts, sinking fleets, and reducing the magnificent city of Atlantis to rubble. The Atlantians, still young and untested, were on the verge of annihilation.

Realizing that the threat could not be contained by his children alone, Poseidon broke the divine rules of non-interference. He led a daring counter-attack, surprising the Kraken and its forces, and engaged his former champion in a brutal duel. Though both sustained grievous injuries, Poseidon managed to force the Kraken into retreat. With their leader vanquished, the rebellious forces scattered, and the Atlantians reclaimed what was left of their home. The battle marked the end of the first war, but it left Atlantis in ruins, and Poseidon himself was gravely weakened.

The Golden Age of Atlantis –

Despite the devastation, the Atlantians were not defeated. They rebuilt their city, stronger and more magnificent than before, fortifying it against future threats. Learning from their past, they expanded their influence further, constructing new cities across the ocean floor, establishing trade routes, and uniting various marine races under their banner. The rebuilt Atlantis became not just a city, but the capital of an empire, marking the beginning of the Golden Age of Atlantian Civilization.

This period was characterized by innovation, exploration, and growth. The Atlantians developed advanced technologies, harnessing the ocean’s natural resources to create powerful ships, weapons, and magical artifacts. They formed alliances with other sea creatures, from giant sea turtles that acted as mobile outposts to luminescent jellyfish that guided their fleets through dark waters. During this time, they also solidified their dominance over the oceans, bringing peace and stability to vast stretches of the underwater world.

Yet even as Atlantis prospered, new threats loomed in the dark, unexplored reaches of the ocean. Rumors spread of a new entity, a being of pure, elemental power that moved through the deep currents, causing the seas to churn and boil in its wake.

The Dark Tide -

The Water Elemental was unlike any foe the Atlantians had faced before. It was a being of pure, untamed magic, a manifestation of the ocean’s raw, chaotic energy. It did not communicate, did not negotiate—it simply moved through the waters, disrupting the currents and causing immense destruction. Wherever it went, the seas roiled, and tidal waves crashed against coastal shores, but its most devastating effects were felt beneath the waves, where it brought chaos to the once-calm expanses of the ocean.

At first, the Atlantians did not understand the danger. To them, the sea’s turbulence was a natural phenomenon, a sign of the ocean’s power that they had long learned to navigate. But when the Water Elemental arrived at the gates of Atlantis, it became clear that this was no ordinary force of nature. The King of the Sea extended a hand of peace, but the Elemental responded with violence, launching a devastating assault on the city. The Atlantians, caught off guard, fought back fiercely, and after a long, grueling battle, they managed to drive it off, though at a terrible cost.

The War of the Deep began as the Water Elemental continued its assaults, appearing in different parts of the ocean and wreaking havoc. The Atlantians mobilized their fleets, deploying their most powerful warriors and magicians to confront this threat. Yet, despite their strength and numbers, they could not destroy the Elemental. It was a creature that could not be killed, only driven back, and every confrontation left the Atlantians more exhausted, their resources stretched thin.

The Seagate –

In the aftermath of the First War of Atlantis, the Atlantians knew that the threat from the Dark Ocean would never truly fade. The Kraken had retreated, but its dark influence continued to fester in the deep, drawing dangerous creatures to its side. To ensure the safety of their empire, the Atlantians needed a stronghold—one that could stand against any force that might emerge from the abyss. Thus, Seagate was born.

Perched on the edge of the Dark Ocean, where the bright, blue waters of Atlantis meet the shadowed depths of the abyss, Seagate is a fortress like no other. Built into the side of a massive undersea cliff, it stands as a formidable barrier between the civilized seas of Atlantis and the chaotic waters that lie beyond. Its towering walls are crafted from reinforced coral and enchanted stone, capable of withstanding the crushing pressures of the deep as well as the assaults of the most fearsome creatures. Massive, enchanted gates seal off the only known pass into the Dark Ocean, creating a choke point that can be easily defended.

Seagate serves not only as a military outpost but also as a vigilant watchtower. Its spires are equipped with powerful arcane beacons that pierce the dark waters, illuminating the shadowy expanse and revealing any threat that dares to approach. Atlantian sentinels, clad in dark, streamlined armor, patrol its walls, ever watchful for signs of movement in the deep. They are aided by mystics who use their powers to scan the abyss, seeking out the Kraken’s dark influence and other dangers that might stir in the trenches below.

A Fragile Peace –

After centuries of running battles, the Water Elemental retreated to the Dark Ocean, a region so deep and foreboding that even the bravest of Atlantians feared to venture there. What the Elemental sought in those abyssal depths, none could say, but its absence brought a temporary respite to the Atlantians. They used this time to fortify their defenses, create new weapons, and develop strategies for dealing with this indestructible foe, knowing that one day it would return.

Emergence to the Surface -

With the gods’ return to the world, the oracles of Atlantis began receiving visions, subtle whispers of Poseidon’s will guiding them once more. Though their god had been absent, the Atlantians had thrived in his name, and now his influence has returned, stronger than ever. Reclaiming their place as the rulers of the seas, the Atlantians have turned their attention outward for the first time, setting their sights on the surface world.

Poseidon's influence has rekindled old ambitions, as the Atlantians see an opportunity to expand their empire above the waves, where once they had only looked inward. Now, they build great ships that can sail the seas and glide beneath them, ready to venture forth and establish a new era of dominance. Under the leadership of the Atlantean High Council and the King of the Sea, they plan to bring the world’s coasts under their control, offering protection and prosperity to those who bow to them… or ruin to those who resist.

Guardians of the Tide –

As the seas churn and ancient forces awaken, the Atlantians are poised to play a pivotal role in the coming conflict. They are more than warriors—they are scholars, explorers, and diplomats, a people who have mastered the mysteries of the ocean and now seek to bring that knowledge to the surface world. Their fleets are unmatched, their magic deep and powerful, and their resolve unbreakable. They have survived the Kraken, driven back the Water Elemental, and rebuilt their city from ruins. Now, they look to conquer new horizons.

Regular

Atlantis Regular

At Regular level the Atlanteans are the all-round unit who are slightly better in defence but with quite a decent size score.  However other options at this level all feature special abilities.  The Jellyfish have Swarm which makes them hard to hit but also Poison which can cause havoc if they get close to enemy cards.  The Oracles allow you to cast blessings of Poseidon which you can use to your own advantage or to the detriment of your opponent.  Manta Riders are weak but can Fly and Scout, allowing you to revel hidden cards.  And the Sea Stalkers can be used to appear on your opponents side of the table using the Infiltrate ability, forcing them to deal with such annoyances instead of pressing their own attacks.

Veterans

Veterans

Veteran level includes the Sirens who while weak in combat can use their Siren Song to stop adjacent cards from performing any actions.  The Brine Crab is a big combat unit who also has the Killing Blow meaning it can take down far stronger cards with a little bit of luck.  Tide Masters act as your spellcasters and let you use the Atlantis magic deck.  Finally, the Trident Guard have a range of two, allowing you to use ranged attacks with a unit that can also handle itself in close combat.

Elite

Elite -

The Horned Turtle is an Elite level choice which has a very high defence and size score, making it a mobile barricade that can also bite back.  Or you could go more offensive with the Naga who are better in attack than defence.  Ocean Striders are weaker statistically, but they have the vital Charge skill giving you an extra dice when on the attack.

Titan & Legend & Heroes & Champions

Charachters

The Hero leading your army could be Queen Kleito who will give bonuses to all Atlanteans and Naga on the battlefield.   Or you could go straight up combat strength by taking the Creature of the Depths with its high attacks and size.  For Champions Siphon Riptide is the combat specialist with Killing Blow and the bonus of boosting any Brine Crabs you have.  Solon of Triton is the choice if you enjoy using blessings as not only can she cast blessings more easily but by giving a bonus to other Oracles, also helps them with their blessings.  Or you could go for Scion Atlantica who is a more powerful magic user than the normal Tide Masters.  Your game changers though will need to be drawn from the reinforcement deck as both the Legendary King of the Sea and the Titan Leviathan are huge close combat powerhouses.
